Measurement in Google Display Ads - Part II

This time our article is about the most used dimensions in Google banner ads. This is our second post dedicated to Google Display ads. Size is key in Display ads. Incorrect size means unapproved ad, wasted time. At the same time, banner ads require images of several different sizes for optimal results. We also decided to blog about them in detail for you.

300×250

This is one of the most commonly used metrics among Google banner ads. This size is also known as medium size rectangle. It is suitable for placing in the text, especially adding it to the end of the article gives a better effect.

336×280

This size, called a large rectangle, is usually placed on the text. It can also be used in banner ads.

728×90

This size is called the big banner (leaderboard). It is usually placed above the post or inside the forum sites. This measure is often chosen by SEMs.

300×600

This size is also called a half page. Thanks to this measure, you can get to know yourself more. If you want to engage with the user faster, you can choose these banner ads. Effective ad sizes attract users.

320×100

Can also be used as a large mobile banner. Often used as an alternative to 320×50 or 320×250 ad sizes. They are only suitable for banner ads. This format is often preferred because it doubles in height. You can visit Google's official website to see how all the ad banner criteria actually stand.

Animated Banner

If you want to use animated banners, you can choose one of the ad sizes mentioned above. These ads are preferred because they attract the attention of customers faster. When placing an animated ad, you should pay attention to some points:
  • The duration of the advertisement should not exceed 30 seconds;
  • Looping animated ads are not approved;
  • No more than 5 frames per second;
  • Banner file formats must be GIF or HTML5.
  • The ad should flash continuously like spam ads.
  • Each size must not exceed 150 KB.

HTML5 banner

HTML5 ad banners are actually a release format instead of SWF, which is the flash ads used in the past. Google adopted this ad format much later. HTML5 ad banners have replaced Flash, which doesn't work on mobile and takes too long to load. The fact that HTML5 works without the need for a flash plugin is another advantage of the application. The features of the HTML5 banner can be listed as follows:
  • For HTML5 banners, the zip file size must be less than 150 KB.
  • ZIP files should not contain more than 40 files.
  • All parts of the ad must be clickable.
